Listen to Scott King and Fraser Muggeridge in an informal discussion of their practices and work on the publication Tony Cokes – If UR Reading This It’s 2 Late: Vol. 1-3. Both speakers have worked for years across the fields of art, graphic design and music, and will join CCA Director Sarah McCrory in dialogue concerning the translations, slippages and stakes of moving between these fields.

Published on the occasion of Cokes’s solo exhibitionsacross Goldsmiths CCA, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard University and ARGOS centre for audiovisual arts, Brussels, Tony Cokes – If UR Reading This It’s 2 Late: Vol. 1-3 is the first monograph on Cokes’ practice, and creates a visual cartography of a body work that spans twenty years. It features four critical pathways into Cokes’s decades-long practice, with essays contributed by Christoph Cox, Denise Ferreira da Silva, Sohrab Mohebbi, and an in-conversation with artist Kerry Tribe. Cokes’s work deals with mediation and distribution, and as such, this book becomes another conduit for the dissemination of theory, critique, and counter-narrative – a process that he so powerfully engages in as an artist.

BIOGRAPHIES

Fraser Muggeridge studio is a graphic design company based in London. Throughout a wide range of formats, from artists’ books and exhibition catalogues to posters, marketing material, exhibitions and websites, the studio prioritises artists’ and writers’ content over the imposition of a signature style. By allowing images and texts to sustain their own intent and impact, each project is approached with typographic form and letterform playing a key role in arriving at a sympathetic yet subtly alluring object. Fraser Muggeridge founded and is a tutor at Typography Summer School, a week-long programme of typographic study for recent graduates and professionals, held in London (since 2010) and New York (since 2013). He is a visiting lecturer at The University of Reading (since 2003) on the MA Book Design Course and Camberwell College of Art, London, 2nd Year of BA Graphic Design (since 2011).

Scott King is an artist and graphic designer who worked as art director of i-D magazine and creative director of Sleazenation magazine. He has collaborated with many influential figures including the Pet Shop Boys, Michael Clark, Malcolm McLaren and Suicide. King’s work has been exhibited worldwide in both commercial galleries and institutions; he has also produced several books including Anxiety & Depression (2009), Art Works (2010), Anish & Antony Take Afghanistan (2014),Public Art (2016), Britlins (2017) and Lambretta: An eBay Buyer’s Guide (2019).
