Red Ribbon Living Well
Red Ribbon Living Well (RRLW) Creative Enterprise is a community-rooted artistic collective emerging from the lived experiences, creativity and resilience of African migrant communities in Lewisham. Growing from RRLW’s peer-support, health advocacy and anti-stigma work, the Creative Enterprise transforms difficult social realities — including HIV stigma, health inequalities, domestic violence, modern slavery and economic injustice — into stories, images, performance and collective dialogue.
Since 2021, RRLW has developed an increasingly adventurous creative practice through collaborations with artists, researchers, students and community partners. Their work moves between comic storytelling, textile art, performance, citizen journalism and participatory theatre — creating spaces where communities are not simply audiences but storytellers, witnesses, performers and co-creators.
At the heart of their practice is a three-part creative methodology: Citizen Journalism captures community voices through interviews, audio-visual recordings, podcasts and presentations; Forum Theatre transforms lived experiences and community ideas into interactive performances that invite audiences to question, respond and intervene; and Comic Book Storytelling combines drawing, caricature, narrative and visual sequencing to make complex experiences, emotions and social issues accessible, memorable and engaging.
The 2026–27 residency at Goldsmiths CCA represents an opportunity to deepen this practice and give it a sustained creative home. Through workshops, rehearsals, script development, comic-making, spoken word, textile storytelling, citizen-journalism recordings and public Forum Theatre, RRLW will develop work that moves continually between lived experience, creative interpretation and public conversation.
RRLW sees art not as an illustration of community issues, but as a way of thinking, healing, questioning and organising. Its creative output seeks to turn experiences that are often hidden or difficult to articulate into shared stories that can be seen, heard, performed and discussed. At Goldsmiths CCA, RRLW will continue developing an artistic language in which the comic panel becomes testimony, the camera becomes a listening tool, and the theatre becomes a space for collective action.
