The LUDO certificate of collaboration is a new scheme for BA students in the Goldsmiths Art Department devised by artist and tutor Louise Ashcroft, in partnership with Goldsmiths CCA. LUDO experiments with ecologies for art practice based on helping each other, learning from each other and being together. To gain a certificate, students have to complete ten hours of collaborative activity based on sharing skills, labour or resources.

LUDO is a peer-led programme and it is down to students to identify what constitutes meaningful collaboration, and to document their experiences. Suggested categories for activity include: sharing technical knowledge, organising a creative workshop or event for peers, assisting one another with production of artworks, acts of care, reading-groups or film clubs that address ethical and social issues (e.g. ableism, racism, classism, ecological issues), as well as day trips or other creative shared experiences.

The certificate is named LUDO in memory of Louise Ashcroft’s close friend, the artist and play-theorist Elly Thomas who died last year and is very much missed. She was a firework of art, fun, care, humour, education, gardening and collaboration. LUDO is the title of a sculpture by Elly, and an invitation to us all to make the art world a more playful space.

The certificate is being piloted in Summer 2021.
