Autumn 2020

Positive Space is a workshop series for local 14-18 year olds that explores the power of sound to transport us and our environments. Through careful and detailed listening to ourselves, each other, and our environments, and using what we find as a source of raw material to sample, mix and transform, we can take ownership of our spaces and reimagine infinite alternatives and possibilities.

Participants will dialogue with pending upending, the forthcoming installation at the CCA by Kobby Adi, delving into themes such as lockdown and isolation, Black Lives Matter and emotional wellbeing.

Positive Space aims to develop skills in listening, music production, field recording, sampling, mixing, producing sound design for installations and collaborative creativity. This workshop series will be delivered by Alchemy founder and musician / composer Mikey Kirkpatrick with special guest sound artist Mark Peter Wright and local young artist / producer KamZz, who also directs the youth record label Rezon8.

All work created during this workshop series will be made available online via the CCA website in May 2021, and broadcast live over radio on 8 May. We hope that future Positive Space workshops will allow for physical sound installations, performances and events.

Positive Space is a Goldsmiths CCA project in partnership with Alchemy, supported by ACE.
