Collaborative Storytelling with Artbox
Join artists Violet and Mark for a workshop on collaborative storytelling. During the session we will explore Galli’s extensive drawing practice and joyously cut into sketchbooks, to create collaborative comic books using shape, colour and image. As a group, we will respond to motifs within Galli’s work as a starting point to tell our own collective narratives, passing on and responding to each others panels.
This workshop is designed for both adults and children, with all ages and abilities welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
BIOGRAPHIES
Violet uses art making as a therapeutic practice. Working in a wide range of media, creating bright and immersive large-scale drawings, paintings and collages, Violet’s work has developed its own mythology. Coming from a Greek and Cypriot family, she weaves references from ancient marble sculpture and historical artefacts among her own iconographic symbols – eyes and the faces of animals are prevalent in her work, in particular, the face of her fluffy black cat Delilah. Drawing daily in sketchbooks, Violet discovers new ways of looking at the world and describes for others far away places such as Cat Planet. Recent exhibitions include Sharing is Caring, University College Hospital London (2024); Welcome, Artbox Whitecross Street (2024); Enormous, Goldman Sachs Cafeteria (2023); Identity, Jean Stokes Community Centre (2023); People and Planet, Artbox Studio (2022).
They started collaborating at Artbox London, a registered charity and social enterprise that runs a programme of art workshops, cultural trips, hosts exhibitions and creates sales opportunities for learning disabled and neurodivergent artists.
