Octavia Collective x Goldsmiths CCA: Creativity in Solitude, A Reading
Join Octavia Collective members, Amina Jama, Rachel Long and Sarah Lasoye for a special reading of work created in solitude; an intimate showcase and celebration of new work written over the past year. The readings will be followed by an audience-inclusive discussion of what it is to write now, in and despite the current moment.
Octavia is a poetry collective for women of colour founded in 2015 by Rachel Long in direct response to the lack of inclusivity and representation in literature and the academy. Octavia are based at Southbank Centre, in London. Octavia have featured on BBC World Service, in The Guardian, and ASOS Magazine. They have read and performed at the Barbican Centre, Tate Gallery, Latitude Festival, and have run workshops for University of Oxford and the Serpentine Galleries.

Amina Jama:
Recipient of the 2020 Eric Gregory Awards, Amina Jama is a Somali writer, curator, producer, facilitator, and all-round empath, with a focus on creating and maintaining safe spaces for fellow black beauties. She is a Barbican Young Poets alumna and member of Octavia Poetry Collective.
Sarah Lasoye:
Sarah Lasoye is a poet and writer from London. She is an alumna of the Barbican Young Poets and a current member of Octavia – Poetry Collective for Women of Colour. Her debut chapbook, Fovea / Ages Ago, is forthcoming with Hajar Press.
Rachel Long:
Rachel Long’s debut collection, My Darling from the Lions was published by Picador in August 2020. It was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and The Costa Book Award 2020. Rachel is the founder of Octavia Poetry Collective
