Footnotes on a Timeline: Feminist Duration Reading Group x Karrabing Film Collective
PLEASE NOTE THE DATE FOR THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED TO SUN 14 JAN.
This session will build on the parallel ethos of collectivity which The Feminist Duration Reading Group and The Karrabing Film Collective share. Bringing together extracts of poetry, fiction and essays, this informal workshop will delve into the value of communal working methods and the complex experience of indigeneity in contemporary Australia.
Communal screenings of Karrabing’s films The Mermaids, or Aiden in Wonderland (2018) and Night Fishing with Ancestors (2023) will intersperse with close readings of the texts, as we dive into the intersections between land, filmmaking, emotional labour and memory.
The Feminist Duration Reading Group (FDRG) focuses on under-represented feminist texts, movements and struggles from outside the Anglo-American canon. The group has developed a practice of reading out loud, together, one paragraph at a time, with the aim of creating a sense of connection and intimacy during meetings.
