Lawrence Lek – Nepenthe – Live Game Walkthrough
Lawrence Lek presents a live video game walkthrough for Nepenthe (Monument for Forgetting), his site-specific project for the CCA’s current exhibition Testament. Built as an imaginary ‘healing simulator’, the game is based around multiple virtual copies of the CCA’s double-height Oak Foundation Gallery. It uses the motif of repeating portals and digital spaces to explore the ‘doorway effect’, a psychological phenomenon where walking into a new space resets a person’s short-term memory. For this audio-visual performance, Lek will conduct a walkthrough of the video game space, mixed in with other recent short moving image work, and a live soundtrack.
