Deptford Freestylers is a series of inclusive freestyle dance sessions, set up by Rachel Gildea, Francis Majekodunmi and Roland Carline. The group meet weekly at Deptford X and create a space for any age, any body and any style. They share music, look for new ways to engage with performance and learn from each other.

This was a relaxed dance/performance session where audiences decided to take part or watch the session.  This event had a runtime of 2 hours.

This project was in collaboration with Deptford X.

Schedule: Wed 20 Nov, 27 Nov, 4 Dec,  2–3.30pm.

BIOGRAPHIES

Francis Majekodunmi is an actor, writer and street dance performer. He is the Co-Director and Co-Founder of BLINK Dance Theatre whilst also working with Amici Dance Theatre Company and teaching performing arts to university students, in youth centres, schools and community centres. He has a diploma in performing arts from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating in 2014. Majekodunmi is also a collaborator for the fourth and final event series, which continues his ongoing performances under the title Bossy.

Rachel Gildea is an independent dance artist producing socially engaged work in diverse communities. She is a Co-Director of BLINK Dance Theatre. She has a BA Dance and Culture (Surrey University) and an MA in Applied Theatre (Goldsmiths University).
